Den Funden nach müssen bereits im ersten Jahrhundert nach Christus röm. Siedlungen
bzw. Höfe auf der Gemarkung Neibsheim gewesen sein. Der Ort selbst ist eine fränkische Gründung.
Der Name Neibsheim ist seit dem 1. Juni 770 urkundlich belegt. Im Laufe von 1200 Jahren wurde
aus Nichbodesheim der heutige Name Neibsheim.

Nach der ersten Jahrtausendwende müssen in Neibsheim eine obere und eine untere Burg
vorhanden gewesen sein, denn Neibsheim hatte im Hochmittelalter einen Ortsadel der sich
nach dem Dorf benannte, die Herren von Nipotsheim. Im Jahre 1365 ging Nypensheim ganz
in den Besitz des Speyerer Domkapitels über. Vermutlich ging die Erbfolge der örtlichen Ritter verloren.

Ein Schrecken für die Gesamtbevölkerung des Kraichgaus war der 30jährige Krieg von 1618 bis
1648. Neibsheim brauchte etwa 40 Jahre um sich von den Folgen der Kriegswirren zu erholen.
Nur durch den Zuzug von Familien aus der Schweiz und Tirol konnte wieder ein geregeltes Dorfleben
entstehen. Doch im Jahre 1674 musste Neibsheim als Folge kriegerischer Streitigkeiten zwischen
Frankreich und dem Deutschen Reich erneut eine Plünderung über sich ergehen lassen.
In den Folgejahren musste die Bevölkerung französischen Truppen beim Schanzen oder
bei der Versorgung helfen, denn diese besetzten weite Teile des Kraichgaus.

Bis 1802 gehörte Neibsheim zum weltlichen Gebiet des Hochstifts Speyer. 1810 wurde Neibsheim
vom II. Landsamt Bruchsal verwaltet, danach war bis 1936 das Bezirksamt Bretten zuständig und
mit der Auflösung des Bezirks wurde Neibsheim dem Landkreis Bruchsal zugeordnet.

Im Jahr 1970 beging man die 1200-Jahrfeier mit einem großen Fest, bei dem die Geschichte
Neibsheims durch die Bevölkerung in einem Festumzug dargestellt wurde, den sich zahlreiche
prominente Gäste nicht entgehen lassen wollten. Zum 1.3.1972 wurde Neibsheim ein Stadtteil Brettens.

Neibsheim verzeichnet in der 2. Hälfte desvergangenen Jahrhunderts eine stete Aufwärts-
entwicklung. Eine Vielzahl an Vereinen und eine sehr gute Infrastruktur, wie sie in Dörfern
der Umgebung nur noch selten anzutreffen ist, werten die Qualität des als Wohngemeinde
ausgegebenen Ortes erheblich auf. Neibsheim mit über 1900 Einwohnern hat seinen
dörflichen Charakter als typischer Ort im Kraichgau erhalten, ohne den Anschluss in einer
schnelllebigen Zeit an die Erfordernisse des Heute zu verpassen.
